Neuro-ophthalmology is a subspecialty of both neurology and ophthalmology. Neuro ophthalmologists specialise in vision problems that relate to the nervous system.
Such issues include vision problems due to brain injuries or diseases, such as trauma, a stroke, or infection and defects in the visual fields, involuntary spasms of the face and eyelids. Sometimes, these issues might not be a serious cause for concern, but other times, they can lead to more serious complications, such as vision loss.
Most neuro-ophthalmologic disorders require the interaction of the neuro-ophthalmologist with other physicians, particularly general neurologists, neurosurgeons and radiologists.
