Moorfields Eye Hospital was founded in London in 1804.

It was the first hospital in the world devoted to the treatment of eye disease. Today, it is one of the largest centres of ophthalmic treatment, teaching, and research in the world.

Our 2,500 staff, who work across 21 network sites in and around London, are committed to ensuring we remain at the forefront of ophthalmology’s developments.

With our partners at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology (IoO), we are a national and international centre for ophthalmic teaching and research. Together, we lead one of the world’s most robust and extensive eye health research programmes.

In partnership with the IoO and Moorfields Eye Charity, Moorfields is building a new centre for advancing eye health, which will open in 2027.

For private patients, Moorfields Private, London works in partnership with our colleagues in UAE to offer comprehensive eye care and vision correction surgery for patients in the UK and worldwide. Moorfields Private has two London locations: one adjacent to the main NHS hospital on City Road and one on New Cavendish Street in the heart of London’s medical district.
